Robert E. Johnson

Bob died in October 1999 of a brain aneurysm. He was a kind and gentle person. Here follows a brief summary of his life by Cissy Johnson:

Born to Mary and Ralph Johnson
Older brother, Joe
Twin sisters just under him, Jean and Jane
Younger brother Bill
Mother, father and brother Joe all deceased.

Bob finshed high school at OHS in 1968. He started at Ole Miss that same year and subsequently earned a BA in Sociology in 1972, Bachelor in Social Work in 1984 (BSW) and Masters in Social Sceince in 1983 (MSW).

Bob went to work for the State of Mississippin 7/1/74 after working a couple of years in quality control at Emerson Electric. Prior to going to work for NMRC, Bob did home training for deaf and blind children for Ellisville State School. Licensed social worker, retired from NMRC as Director of Social Services 6/30/97. He went to work for Baptist Hospital North Mississippi as a social worker in the Skilled Nursing Unit. He kept this part time job for about a year and a half before giving it up to enjoy his retirement.

Bob was an active member of St. Peter's Episcopal Church and an active member of the Altar Guild. Master Mason, Scottish and York Rite Mason. Served as Worshipful Master of O.D. Smith Masonic Lodge in 1980 after having served as Worth Patron of the Order of the Eastern Star in 1979. Active member of the Past Matron and Past Patron's Club.

Married Phyllis (Cissy) Stewart in April 1971. Divorced in February 1984. No children. Loved and was loved by me (and so many others).

Loved to bike. Loved a good steak on the grill with a good scotch and water. Loved his cat, loved his roses and his birds, loved having made a difference to the residences at NMRC and their families, loved God and his family.

He was the best person I ever knew. Kind and gentle, fair and forgiving, honest and intelligent.
